Intel Wreaks Havok on the Gaming Industry

Chip manufacturer Intel has acquired Dublin, Ireland-based gaming firm Havok, which specializes in video game animation, in-game physics and SDK’s. Havok’s technology has been used in a number of popular games, including Bioshock, Stranglehold, Crackdown and Halo 2. Havok’s products have also been used to create special effects in movies such as “The Matrix” and “Troy.”

This move could boost competition in the PC gaming market with rival Advanced Micro Devices (AMD), who has already built up a large audience in the space.

For those not familiar with Havok, here’s a video I did with them at the 2007 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco.
